History and Merger Of Telangana And Andhra
Satavahana dynasty (230 BCE to 220 CE) originated from the lands between the Godavari and Krishna River. Kotilingala in Karimnagar was their first capital, before moving to Dharanikota. Excavations at Kotilingala revealed coinage of Simukha, the first Satavahana emperor. The Satavahana Empire was important in repelling foreign empires from India, such as the Indo-Greeks, and preserving Indian culture.

The region experienced its golden age during the reign of the Kakatiya dynasty, a Telugu dynasty that ruled most parts of what is now Andhra Pradesh from 1083 to 1323. Ganapatideva was known as the greatest of the Kakatiyas, and the first after the Satavahanas to bring the entire Telugu area under one rule. He put an end to the rule of the Cholas, who accepted his suzerainty in the year 1210. He established order in his vast dominion that stretched from the Godavari delta in the east to Raichur (in modern day Karnataka) in the west and from Karimnagar and Bastar (in modern day Chattisgarh) in the north to Srisailam and Tripurantakam, near Ongole, in the south. It was during his reign that the Golkonda fort was constructed. Rudrama Devi and Prataparudra were prominent rulers from the Kakatiya dynasty.

Telangana came under the Muslim rule of the Delhi Sultanate in the 14th century, followed by Bahmanis, Qutb Shahis, and the Mughals. As the Mughal Empire began to disintegrate in the early 18th century, the Muslim Asafjahi dynasty established a separate state known as Hyderabad. Later, Hyderabad entered into a treaty of subsidiary alliance with the British Empire, and was the largest and most populous princely state in India. Telangana was never under direct British rule, unlike the Coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema regions of Andhra Pradesh, which were part of British India's Madras Presidency.

December 1953: the State Reorganisation Commission (SRC), headed by Justice Fazal Ali, created a report in 1955 recommending the reorganisation of India’s states.

The SRC was not in favour of merging the Telangana region with the then Andhra state. The Centre decided to ignore the SRC recommendations and established unified Andhra Pradesh on November 1, 1956. However, a “Gentleman’s agreement” provided reassurances to the Telangana people.

January 1969: Discontent with the 1956 Gentleman’s agreement intensified in January 1969 when the guarantees that had been agreed on were supposed to lapse. This movement also known as Jai Telangana movement led to widespread violence and deaths. Around 360 students died in this movement.

M. Chenna Reddy founded the Telangana People’s Association (Telangana Praja Samithi). This move flopped.
In 1990s the BJP promised a separate Telangana state if they come to power. But BJP could not create separate Telangana state because of the opposition from its coalition partner, Telugu Desam Party.

Congress party MLAs from Telangana region supported the separate Telangana state and formed a Telangana Congress Legislators Forum.

In another development, a new party called Telangana Rashtra Samithi (or TRS) is formed with single agenda of separate Telangana state, with Hyderabad as its capital.

In 2004: for Assembly and Parliament elections, Congress party and TRS had an electoral alliance in Telangana region with the promise of separate Telangana State.

In September 2006 TRS withdrew support for the Congress led coalition government at center on the grounds of indecision by the government over the delivery of its electoral promise to create Telangana.
In December 2006, TRS won the by-election to Karimnagar parliamentary constistuency, which is considered by many as referendum on Telanagana state, with a record margin.

There is lot of pressure on Congress party to create Telangana state in 2008. In 2010, more than 250 Telangana people committed suicide over the delay in the formation of Telangana state.

On July 6, Telangana congress legislators and ministers met Srikrishna commission and made strong arguments in favor of the formation of Telangana state.

All the Telangana MLAs who resigned protesting the delay in the formation of Telangana(11 TRS and 1BJP) in February were re-elected in the by-elections on July 27, 2010 with huge majority.

On December 16th TRS organized a massive public meeting in Warangal couple of weeks before the submission of report by the Justice Srikrishna Committee. It’s estimated that over 2.5 million attended this meeting.

Telagana State and districts

Telangana region is part of Andhra Pradesh state in southern India. It constitutes Hyderabad, Adilabad, Karimnagar, Khammam, Mahaboobnagar, Medak, Nalgonda, Nizamabad, RangaReddy and Warangal districts. Telangana region is one of the least developed regions in India. Rampant poverty, illiteracy, malnourished children, child labor, farmer suicides, unemployment, water scarcity and electricity shortage are some of the problems of this region. Government has decided to carve out a separate state of Telangana, which will be 29th State of India. Since its inception in 2001, the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) has been fighting for creation of a separate Telangana state. Telangana accounts for 119 of the 294 seats in the Andhra Pradesh State Assembly and also has 17 of the 42 Lok Sabha members. Andhra Pradesh has 23 districts at present. Of this the following ten districts are going to be part of Telangana State
