அஷ்டமி / அட்டமி

Dear devotees,
I have always wondered about this too! why Ashtami and Navami (8th
and 9th ) days of the lunar fortnight are considered inauspicious !
It was during ASHTAMI, Lord Krishna was born . ( 8th day of the dark
half). Ramachadnra bhagwan was also born on the ninth day of the
white half of the lunar fortnight .... but the temple priest told me
that it was o.k. to perform pujas to lord krishna on these two
days... as far as dashami is concerned, he said no pujas are
recommended...
i remember when we were growing up , grandma forbade us from using
the word "patthu" meaning tenth in tamizh for on the 10th day
all "anthayeshti" is performed ( funeral rites).... but by the same
token, it is on the 10th day , a child's nama-sanskar is also
performed....
my feelings on all this is there is no such thing as auspicious or
inauspicious time for worshipping God/ess ? i may be wrong- smiles!
அட்டமி (அஷ்டமி) எனும் வடமொழிச் சொல் இந்து நாட்காட்டியில் அமாவாசை நாளிலிருந்து அல்லது முழுநிலவு நாளிலிருந்து எட்டாவது நாள் (திதி) ஆகும்.
திருமாலின் அவதாரமான கண்ணன் அட்டமி நாளில் அவதரித்ததால் இந்நாள் ஜென்மாஷ்டமி அல்லது கோகுலாஷ்டமி என்ற பெயரில் கொண்டாடப்படுகிறது.

எட்டை எல்லோரும் வெறுப்பர் உலகில். ஆனால் இந்த எட்டு தான் நம்மை ஆள்கிறது.
இன்று அஷ்டமி நல்ல காரியம் செய்ய கூடாது என்கின்றனர். அஷ்டமியில் தானே கண்ணன் பிறந்தான். கண்ணன் பிறந்த நாளை வெகு விமர்சையாக கொண்டாடுகிறோமே!
எட்டாக உள்ள கண்கள் தான் கண்ணன் இருப்பிடம், இதுவே ஞானம்!
நம் முன்னோர்கள் பலரும் இந்த எட்டை பலபல பரிபாஷையில் பாடி உள்ளனர். இரண்டு பூஜியத்தை தொட்ட படி போட்டால் அது எட்டு. நிமிர்ந்து நின்ற 8 ஐ படுக்க வைத்தால் போல் ! இரண்டு கண்கள் போல் உள்ளது அல்லவா?
"பூஜ்யத்துகுள்ளே ஒரு ராஜ்யத்தை ஆண்டு கொண்டு புரியாமல் இருப்பன் ஒருவன் அவனை புரிந்து கொண்டால் அவன் தான் இறைவன்" என கவியரசு கண்ணதாசன் பாடியுள்ளார்.
