Dayanidhi maran resigned Textile Minister Post

Dayanidhi maran resigned Textile Minister Post -today, due to 2g allocation scam and aircel maxis.

As the voices and evidence against Union Textiles Minister Dayanidhi Maran gets louder and seem to be on the up-swing, the CBI's implication of maran in its status report on the 2G scam added fuel to the already raging fire of the 2g scam. Congress sources have revealed that if the CBI files a charge sheet against Maran, the Prime Minister will be compelled to take a harsh step on him. There are also reports that suggest that if an FIR is filed against Maran, his position will become untenable.

With the Congress swamped under a flood of corruption scandals and other scams during its tenure, this latest report on Maran will act as a severe blow to the UPA. With A Raja earlier and now Dayanidhi Maran too getting entangled in the telecom scam, the Congress will be pressurised to take action.

Meanwhile, the voices seeking the ouster of Maran seem to be getting louder, the most prominent of which is that of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa. She was quoted as saying, “There is no use in expecting Maran to take moral responsibility and resign. It is high time that the PM dropped him from the Cabinet.”

The Opposition, BJP has also upped the ante in the anti-Maran campaign with party spokesperson Nirmala Sitharaman stating, “Maran's position in the Cabinet has become untenable and he has to resign.” The BJP intends to raise the matter in the Parliament's monsoon session.

Maran was accused of pressurising former Aircel chief C Sivasankaran to sell his stake to a Malaysian businessman T Anandkrishnan. He is also facing the CBI music for purposely delaying granting licenses to Aircel in spite of getting a clearance from the Department of Telecommunications. He is believed to have sat on the report and held the matter to ransom till the Aircel chief obliged to his demands. The CBI apparently seem to have enough evidence to prove this.

The Congress has not issued a statement after Maran was named in the CBI report.

---------------------------
A day after he was nailed by the CBI in the 2G spectrum allocation scam, DMK leader Dayanidhi Maran on Thursday (July 7) resigned from the post of Textiles Minister from the Union Cabinet. In a huge blow to the Karunanidhi-led DMK, Maran who was the communications minister in 2004-07, tendered his resignation to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh at 7RC today.

Sources close to Maran told TIMES NOW that the DMk leader had confided to his associates that his time in the cabinet was over. Before attending the cabinet meeting at 7RCR today, sources said that Maran told his close associates, "It is all over now" and that he was going to tender his resignation to the Prime Minister.

The PM stepped into the issue a day after the CBI in its status report in the 2G spectrum allocation scam pointed fingers art Maran for delaying of telecom company Aircel's application for 2G licence.

The CBI's report also states the Maran forced the licence to be sold to Malaysian company Maxis during his tenure as communications minister in 2006.

The Congress Core Group had yesterday met at the Prime Minister’s residence and is believed to have discussed the issue.

Tamil Nadu CM Jayalalithaa had on Wednesday said, "There is no use in expecting Maran to take moral responsibility and resign. It is high time that the PM dropped him from the Cabinet."

BJP also demanded the PM to drop him from his cabinet. "Maran's position in the Cabinet has become untenable and he has to resign," party spokesperson Nirmala Sitharaman had told reporters.

The DMK chief is not in the best of terms with the Congress over the arrest and jailing of his daughter Kanimozhi and that of his trusted man A Raja.

Chennai businessman Sivasankaran has alleged that Maran coerced him into selling Aircel to Malaysian businessman T Anandkrishnan by denying him the licences he had sought for 13 new circles, and by not considering his application to extend the deadline to meet the letter of intent conditions for the MP circle that was already with him.
