NEWS X EXIT POLL ELECTION SURVEY 2011

NewsX- C Voter Exit Poll

New Delhi, May 10, 2011: As the battle for power in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Assam drew to a close after the last vote was polled in the 6th phase of elections on Monday, NewsX-CVoter Exit Poll indicates a vote for change in all the states.

The results of NewsX-CVoter exit poll indicates that the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) is all set to return to power in Kerala; Mamata led TMC-Congress combine is geared to uproot the incumbent Left Front government in West Bengal; Jayalalitha’s AIADMK may get a comfortable majority and Assam is likely to see a fractured verdict and a hung Assembly.

NewsX-CVoter exit poll data on Kerala projects that the Congress led UDF may corner between 83-91 seats – almost double the number of its existing strength of 42 in a house of 140. The poll data further suggests that the CPIM-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) will perhaps get only between 49-57 seats. Moreover, the UDF is projected to get a 9 percent vote swing in its favour, while the LDF’s vote-percentage loss is projected at about 4 percent. An interesting fact emerging in the data is that BJP might open its account in Kerala Assembly, with its nominee emerging stronger at least in one constituency.

History seems to be in the making in West Bengal after 34 years of continuous Left Front rule. The NewsX-CVoter exit poll data on West Bengal Assembly elections suggests a positive swing of 9% votes for Mamata Bannerjee led TMC. In fact, the TMC-Congress alliance is projected to win about 227 to 235 seats, whereas the ruling left front is likely to be reduced to just 48 to 56 seats in the 294 member assembly.

NewsX-CVoter Exit Poll survey for the recently concluded Tamil Nadu assembly elections gives strong indication of a victory for AIADMK alliance. The Jayalalitha led AIADMK alliance is poised for a comfortable majority to oust the M. Karunanidhi led DMK government in the state. Data suggests that the AIADMK led alliance is set to win about 168-176 seats while the ruling DMK alliance is likely to be reduced to an ignominious minority with 62 in the 234-strong assembly in Tamil Nadu.

Finally, the NewsX-CVoter exit poll data from Assam suggests the state may end up with a fractured mandate with the ruling Congress-BPF alliance projected to win between 48 to 56 seats. The fractured opposition parties including AGP, BJP, and AUDF, which have entered the elections without any pre poll understanding, are projected for a poor showing when the counting of votes begin on May’13. BJP may pick up only between 14 to 18 seats.
